Flat Lick Elementary is a P-6 educational center with an enrollment of 240 students, nestled in the mountains of Southeastern Kentucky. Flat Lick was the first school in Knox County to earn a Distinguished Rating, 90th percentile in the state. Our school staff is comprised of one principal, 20 certified staff members, eight classified staff members, one part-time counselor, one part-time speech therapists, one full-time nurse, one Family Resource Center Coordinator, three custodians, three cafeteria personnel, five bus drivers, ten itinerants, and one office manager. In the past 3 years the enrollment has increased nearly 20%. We are part of the Knox County school system and are located approximately eight miles south of Barbourville on 25E.

At Flat Lick Elementary we have made numerous improvements over the past three years. We were the first school to earn a Distinguished rating on the KPREP assessment–we jumped from the 45th percentile in 2014 to the 90th percentile in the state in 2015. Our overall index increased 11.6 points. We have had over a 1% increase in our ADA. We have incorporated an iPad learning lab for grades 4-6. We have received funds for 1:1 Chromebooks for students in grades 3-6.  In the next 3 years we hope to make annual progress needed to meet our Proficiency Delivery targets. We would also strive to close the achievement gap among all students.
